Hydrate Your Skin From Within

There are lots of creams and potions on the market that claim to give you glowing healthy skin, and whilst some may help, the key to beautiful skin is to hydrate your skin from within. Not only will this save you money but you’ll also reap so many other health benefits.

Water is essential for life right? Our body is made up of roughly 70% water, how crazy is that?! Throughout the day as we lose water through breathing, sweating and urinating so we need to replace it. If you don’t get enough fluid you may feel tired, get headaches and not perform at your best. Your skin needs moisture for it to stay flexible so make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day and aim for 1.6 to 2 litres a day.

So what are some of the other health benefits to drinking water?

·         no calories

·         no sugar

·         regulates body temperature

·         aids absorption and digestion

·         helps to flush out toxins

Sounds pretty good to me!

 

How do you know if you’re getting enough water?

Feeling thirsty is your body’s way of telling you that you need to drink more. However, the easiest way to check your hydration levels is to check the colour of your urine. If it’s a dark yellow colour it’s a signal to drink more water and if it’s a pale straw colour it’s a sign you’re getting enough.

My clients often say to me “I know I don’t drink enough water”, “I just forget” or “I don’t like water on its own”. I always help them to re-evaluate their relationship with water and find strategies to increase their water intake. A great tip if you often forget is making sure you have a BPA free bottle you can refill (that way you know how much you’re drinking) and always put your bottle on show/in your eye line because as the saying goes “out of sight out of mind”!
